On the afternoon of November 24, Mr. Zhang Quan, director of the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality (STCSM), and Ms. Huang Hong, deputy director of STCSM, led a delegation to visit Siemens Technology China. They were shown around the exhibition hall at Siemens Shanghai Innovation Center to celebrate the company’s 175th anniversary. In addition, they held talks with Siemens on smart manufacturing, smart facilities, and technologies for achieving the “dual carbon” goals. Also present was Mr. Zhu Xiaoxun, director of Siemens Technology China.

Mr. Zhang Quan spoke highly of Siemens’ achievements in scientific and technological innovation and collaborative innovation in Shanghai. As he pointed out, a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformations is advancing by leaps and bounds. It is an irresistible trend to want to cope with global challenges and achieve win-win cooperation through technological innovation. STCSM encourages and supports foreign-invested R&D institutions in Shanghai to participate in government research projects and conduct high-level science and technology cooperation with local universities, research institutes, and enterprises to build Shanghai into a sci-tech center for innovation with global influence.

Mr. Zhu Xiaoxun expressed his gratitude to STCSM for its consistent support for Siemens in sci-tech innovation. Highlighting Siemens’ commitment to sci-tech innovation in Shanghai, he said the company will further its cooperation with local enterprises and research institutes and serve as a good example of how a foreign-invested enterprise in Shanghai contributes to the building of the city into a center for sci-tech innovation.

This year marks the 175th anniversary of Siemens and its 150th anniversary of entering China. Recent years have seen Siemens playing an active part in collaborative innovation with Shanghai Machine Tool Works, Shentong Metro, and other entities, empowering the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries in Shanghai with digital technology. Its project was among the 2021 top ten cases of “collaborative innovation” by foreign-invested enterprises in Shanghai. In August 2022, STCSM and Siemens renewed their memorandum of understanding on cooperation.

Other officials from STCSM and representatives from Siemens joined the visit.
