To implement the consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on building a more stable, prosperous and sustainable Thailand-China community with a shared future, Mr. Gong Zheng, mayor of Shanghai, led a delegation to visit Thailand from April 29 to May 2. They met with Mr. Don Pramudwinai, deputy prime minister and foreign minister of Thailand, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, governor of Bangkok, Mrs. Pikulkaew Krairiksh, chairwoman of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Kraisid Tontisirin, senator and member of the Senate Standing Committee on Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand. Mr. Gong also attended the “Invest in Shanghai, Share the Future” Conference in Bangkok, trying to inject new momentum into the China-Thailand ties through closer bilateral trade, two-way investment, sci-tech cooperation, sister city exchanges, and people-to-people exchanges.

Before the unveiling ceremony, Mr. Gong met with Mr. Kraisid Tontisirin, senator and member of the Senate Standing Committee on Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand. Then they jointly unveiled the Green Technology Bank Bangkok Center, the first overseas branch of the Bank. Mr. Gong said, with green technology as the link, he hoped to promote green solutions in Thailand and other ASEAN countries to add new dimensions to the family-like bond between the two countries in the new era.

The Green Technology Bank is an international cooperation platform established by China to implement the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and promote green technology in serving the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative and the community with a shared future for mankind. It was initiated by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government in 2017, with its headquarters in Shanghai. The Green Technology Bank Bangkok Center is aimed to promote the transfer and application of advanced and applicable green technologies in Thailand and other ASEAN countries, serving as a bridge to facilitate international cooperation in green technologies.

In 2020, STCSM and the Thailand Science, Research and Innovation (TSRI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Sci-tech Innovation. According to the MOU, the two sides have jointly supported the construction of the China-Thailand Joint Research Institute of Natural Medicine, advanced the development of the China-Thailand technology transfer, innovation and incubation platform, and encouraged extensive cooperation between their universities, research institutes and tech companies on basic research and application of technological outcomes. Their cooperation has yielded a series of results.Based on friendly consultations, the two sides decided to further strengthen sci-tech innovation cooperation and technological and people-to-people exchanges. Chairman Luo Dajinand Mr. Pattamawadee Pochanukulin, president of TSRI, renewed their MOU on friendly cooperation.
