In 2012, Shanghai achieved high-tech industrial output of 682.499 billion Yuan, accounting for 20.57% of total citywide industrial output; among which, the output of medical equipment, instrument and meter manufacturing industry amounted to 38.607 billion Yuan, accounting for 5.66% of output; the output of pharmaceutical industry amounted to more than 7.5% of total output, with a total of 51.322 billion Yuan; electronics and communication equipment manufacturing industry amounted to 223.18 billion Yuan, accounting for 32.70% of output; the output of the computer and office equipment manufacturing industry amounted to 357.565 billion Yuan, accounting for 52.39% of total output.
There are two national high-tech industrial development zones in Shanghai, forming “one zone, eighteen parks” layout including the Zhangjiang High-tech Industrial Development Zone and the Zizhu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone. By the end of November, 2013, the Zhangjiang Demonstration Zone achieved total industrial output of 1076.776 billion Yuan, with the added value of 455.586 billion Yuan; gross revenues reached 2364.114 billion Yuan, with the export and foreign exchange earnings amounting more than 47billion USD, while net profits reached 142.886 billion Yuan. In total, enterprises within the zone paid taxes amounting to 121.166 billion Yuan. There are now over 2000 new and high-tech enterprises and over 260 service enterprises using advanced technologies in the demonstration zone, all of which are continuing to play key independent roles in the zone’s innovative progress. These have formed the five dominant industry groups represented by the new generation information technology, high-end equipment manufacturing, biology, energy-saving and environment protection, new materials and two pioneering industry groups, representing new energy and new energy automobiles.
