The 15 th Shanghai International Conference on Traditional Chinese Medicine and Natural Medicine & the 2022 Yangtze River Delta Symposium on Natural Products Chemistry (“the TCM Conference”) was held in Zhangjiang Science Hall from November 17 to 18. The conference was sponsored by the Shanghai Center of Biomedicine Development, the Shanghai Pharmaceutical Association, and Shanghai Zhangjiang Biotech & Pharmaceutical Base Development Co., Ltd. Mr. Shen Jianzhong, deputy director of the China National Center for Biotechnology Development, Mr. Zhu Qigao, deputy director & level I bureau rank official of Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality (STCSM), Mr. Yan Bo, vice governor of Pudong New Area, and Mr. Zhang Qing, deputy director of Shanghai Municipal Drug Administration, delivered speeches.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Zhu Qigao affirmed Shanghai as an important hub for TCM innovation which, committed to breaking new ground in the right direction, has built a complete TCM innovation system. In the future, the STCSM will sustain and support the innovative development of TCM in Shanghai to promote this traditional legacy of China to benefit all people worldwide. In his speech, he suggested enhancing the creative development of TCM based on tradition and innovation, elevating regional collaborative innovation to serve national strategies better, and broadening and deepening international cooperation through opening-up and diversification.
The Inaugural Meeting of the Shanghai Innovative TCM Transformation Alliance & the Unveiling Ceremony of the Shanghai Innovative TCM Transformation Platform was held during the conference. Mr. Yan Bo, Mr. Zhang Qing, Mr. Cao Hongming, director & level II bureau rank official of the STCSM’s Department of Biotech & Pharm., Mr. Ji Guang, president of the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Mr. Fu Daxu, president of the Shanghai Institute for Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Technologies, jointly unveiled the platform. In addition, Shanghai Zhangjiang (Group) Co., Ltd., the Shanghai Center for Drug Evaluation and Inspection, the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Shanghai Center of Biomedicine Development, and the Shanghai Innovative Research Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine concluded a contract and unveiled the first batch of ten projects on the platform.
The TCM Conference has been held for 14 years in a row. Under the theme of “Focus on Inheritance and Innovation, Scientifically Interpret TCM,” this year’s event comprises the opening ceremony, one main report, and four sub-reports. Over 60 experts and scholars shared their views on TCM and natural medicine, covering the composition of active ingredients, targets, action mechanisms, traceability, and efficacy. In addition, the latest policies, regulations, research trends, development trends, technical cooperation, and industry hotspots were also discussed in depth. The sharing and insights from the speakers and participants offered valuable cutting-edge information for representatives of TCM science, technology, and business interests, and empowered the TCM industry to maintain high-quality, high-speed and innovative development.
